When you are picking up your puppy, ask for a piece of cloth from the bedding he or she lived in with her littermates. The familiar smell will provide a security blanket when the little one feels most lonely and insecure during the first few nights.

    Hello
Just another suggestion. When I first pick up a puppy I bring a pair of cheap fuzzy slippers and ask the breeder to put them in with the Mother for a week, so that when I pick up the puppy he has a furry warm cuddler that smells like Mom.

Harli you rock! What a brilliant and innovative idea. Some puppies are small enough they could even burrow into the fuzzy mom-smelling slipper to take a snooze. That transition can be traumatic and how wonderful to have a fuzzy surrogate Mom to get them over the dislocation. Thanks for this great suggestion – I’m going to mention it on the air on DOG TALK.
