People mistakenly believe that the few breeds of dogs with no hair might be good choices for those with allergies to dogs, but just the opposite is true. These dogs still have the two things which people are allergic to: skin – which sheds dead cells, or dander – and saliva, which they deposit on their skin when licking themselves. |

I don’t agree with you on this one. I, myself, have allergies and I use to own a Chinese Crested named Tex. I *NEVER* got allergic to him. And every day I’d wipe him down with a wet wash cloth then gave him a rub down with a lotion. His skin was just beautiful. Never dried out. And I could cuddle with him A LOT and never had an allergic flair-up. ;o) He’s not with me any more…he past away and I sure miss him. He was a GREAT little dog.
Good for you! But most people would not know about (or go to the trouble o)f a daily “sponge bath” and moisturizing session! It’s great that you are that devoted and get the benefit of such loving care in having less allergens to affect you. Lucky pooch!
Hey Anne, this blog does not says that if you have a hairless dog you will immediately get alergies its just that you have a great possibility to have allergies it does not says that ALL will have.
You’re right Kurt- she actually figured out a great solution. What worries me is people thinking that only a few breeds of dogs are non-allergenic or hypo-allergenic when really it’s about management and many people with allergies could live with ANY dog if they managed him the way Anne did hers.
