Actor and commentator Ben Stein says the solution to every problem is to “get a dog,” but what if your apartment is too small or you can’t handle the expense? Or if there are any other number of reasons you can’t have a dog?
This week we’ll explore ways to have a dog in your life when you can’t have a dog of your own. This way you, too, can take advantage of Ben Stein’s miracle cure for just about everything – a dog! |

If the initial cost of adopting a dog is a problem, you can foster care dogs…also my funny, active Shih Tzu does just fine in my apartment.
If you are a senior, Purina, has a senior adoption fee that is about less than 50% of the actual fee. Cody came home with food and treats, a collar and lead. He is microchip and that was included. Both my cat and dog prefer water and food dishes that are for humans. Actually, I had a vase type glass container with floating candles and I finally just removed the candles and gave it to the cat. Also, Petco gives you a coupon book if you adopt an animal. I think I got at least 3 bags of free food and lots of discounts on other stuff.
I can’t keep a dog because I work long hours. What I did this year is to volunteer with a local rescue group. Every Sunday I am up at Petco doing adoptions and get to spend 4 hours with a different dog every week. I’ve met some nice people doing this as well.
