Just like humans, pets are not immune to being sunburned. Fair-furred and short-haired dogs are at higher risk of getting burnt by the sun. So help your pet avoid those harmful rays during peak sun hours on days between 10am and 4pm – OR, keep them in the shade, even when it’s overcast. Don’t forget to apply a fragrance-free, non-staining, UVA and UVB sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher so they don’t become a burnt hot dog. Be sure the sunscreen does not contain PABA, which is dangerous to dogs if ingested, because most dogs will try to lick the sunscreen off. Instead go with an all-natural sunscreen specifically for canines to protect your running buddy from UV rays. Apply the sunscreen to the nose, tips of ears, around lips, groin area, inside of legs, underbelly and other unprotected areas. |
