If your dog needs a drink and you don’t have a bowl – but you do have an unused poop bag in your pocket – roll down the top of the bag to form a make-shift bowl and fill it with water. Benny Bix Ochman Labradoodle Puppy prefers this method to every portable dog bowl I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried a lot.) |

Yep, that’s a really good idea!
Raja – Thank you!
I also worry about having my pup drink out of shared water bowls and dog fountains. so this is easy and safe too.
My only caution with this great idea is to make sure you are not using a scented bag. Otherwise, this is a wonderful suggestion – thanks!
Dee – you are so right! didn’t occur to me to caution about that because i never use anything scented. smart observation! thank you!
Fantastic tip! Thanks for sharing!!

I would use this in a pinch, but I wouldn’t make it a habit, since that is probably not a ‘food quality’ plastic that those bags are made of–kind of like putting your chips or sandwich into a trash bag instead of a ziplock.
When I go out I take a water bottle and cut the bottom off leaving 2 or 3 ‘rings’ and use them to snap right onto the bottom of a full bottle and then we can share. I just pull off the bottle bottom from my bottle and pour in a bit for my dog. Works great for a little dog on a short walk. If we are gone all day, I fill a bottle just for him and put the bottle bottom on the bottle that is ‘his’.
Kelly – this tip is meant to be used in a pinch – not as a regular source of water. :>)
Hi,
I think it’s a great idea – used it often with Cosmo when we’re in the dog park. I now carry a Poland Springs sqeeze bottle or a portable water bottle with a dish attached when walking. I also carry a portable dish when going on outings such as my nephew’s baseball games. They supply the water – I supply the dish.
However, I said “used to” because I can’t anymore. Cosmo has discovered the joy of tearing apart plastic bags & bottles, paper bags and other containers, i.e. cereal boxes, tin foil – anything tearable. I have learned to be very careful – a visit to the vet for tin foil stuck in his stomach (Mother Nature took care of it) – and a $385.75 bill. He’s worth every penny, but I’d would have rather spent it on toys, snacks, food, etc.
Hope these other suggestions help also.
Barbara – i cringe every time i see someone letting their dog play with an empty plastic water bottle because so many dogs end up at the vet – or worse- as a result.
If we’re going to be out for any period of time, I always carry bottled water with a squirt top for benny. but every once in a while i forget, or whatever, and a bag will do, since benny, thankfully, won’t eat them!
