Most of the sled dogs race in boots. But what about the urban dogs who walk in slush and mush, the trail dogs who walk on rocks and grit, the Shih Tzus with feet like brooms and the Min Pins with tiny delicate feet?
Yes, all dogs might need boots. Boots – functional and well-fitted – can protect the pads and save the paws. (Never use boots in heat as dogs need to sweat through their pads.) My 12-year old Golden who has advanced arthritis from hip dysplasia needs boots to protect his feet when walking outside. He now drags his back feet and wears down his nails, causing them to bleed. The boots prevent this from happening.
Does anyone have suggestions on the best boots for dogs? I’m looking for boots for my new mixed-breed small dog (maybe fox terrier mix?) to protect his feet when winter starts, but also to protect him from the really nasty burrs that seem abundant in my Albuquerque neighborhood. I tried boots (don’t remember the brand) for my now deceased Aussie, Astra, and they just didn’t stay fastened. I’d like something better for Cisco.
