Dog Tips

Just as a light stick on a cord makes trick-or-treating children more visible at night, a disposable, inexpensive light stick taped to a dog’s collar, harness or costume makes your dog visible to passing cars as he walks beside you.

The sun will set at roughly 6 p.m. on October 31, 2009. Even though Halloween will coincide with a bright full moon, cloud cover or even tall buildings and trees could make the roadway dark. Protect your costumed doggy by making him glow as he parades about.

This may not be the popular or “feel-good” message of this weekend, but it is simply not in the best interest of one’s dog, or the children in your neighborhood, to take a dog out during the trick-or-treating time or Halloween Festivities time. Strangers in costume, even people known to the dog, are all acting “odd”….jumping around and yelling “Boo!” or wearing strange wigs or makeup. Even the most well behaved, best trained, or friendliest dog can become confused, started, and protective. It’s just not worth the kick that the HUMAN owner might get out of dressing up Fifi and parading her around. Be a responsible adult, do what’s best for your pet – and that is making sure that Fido has a safe, calm place to spend the evening. And tomorrow, when you take him for a walk, be on the lookout for spilled or dropped candy, especially chocolate. He’ll be on it in a New York Minute, and at the least, it could cause upset tummy. At worst, well, let’s not even think about that.
