The Daily Dog Tip

Food is not love. No, seriously, it is not. Food is supposed to taste great, have a lovely, chewy texture and help your dog feel healthy and energetic while looking shiny and fit. So, more food does not equal more love. More food equals feeling bloated and looking fat. If you love your dog, feed him a moderate amount of well chosen food, and create an interactive schedule that will make his life fun and exciting every day. Love is creating good times for your pet in active ways that stimulate his curiosity and engage his mind. Food is just fuel.

SO I have a doxi and I have a question… Why is it that all dogs want to do is eat… I cant look at the kitchen with out him getting excited. My doxi has a strict food schedule that he knows very well because of their tenderness to overweightness. Because they want food, does it mean they are hungry?

Just because your dog wants food does not mean that he is hungry. Dogs will always react to something that you do so just keep him on his schedule make sure he is not overweight and he gets enough exercise.

    Hey Helen and Woof Raja!

Thank you so much for saying this.

It seems that if a human or two legged critter wants to eat, they think they should share their people or person food with such little four legged ones….. thank you so much for saying this out loud.

I just adopted three little, grown up pups and one of them is (was even fatter) way too fat. I so believe in exercise for the little four legged ones right along with helping me get out and walk…. walking is GREAT.

Thanks again for the wonderful tip.

When I got my puppy I did not realize what people food would do to him. I use to give him everything that I had until one day I realized that he was too fat. It was hard to break the habit of giving him people food. My dog has been completly off of people food now for 5 months and on diet dog food and it has made a big difference in his apprearance and his activity level. I wish I would have know this stuff before I got my dog. Live and learn. Thank you for all your wonderful tips, glad that I signed up for them.
