Canine probiotics are among the newest supplements for dogs these days. They are just like the human probiotics now common in yogurt drinks, but the beneficial bacteria are canine specific. Canine probiotics regulate all the phases of digestion and help prevent tummy discomfort, especially common stress diarrhea.
But wait! Don’t run right out and buy some. And do not substitute human probiotics you can buy for yourself. Humans and dogs just are not built the same no matter how compatible we are. Check with your vet about these supplements to make sure no preexisting conditions could be troublesome. Helen Fazio and her dog Raja are world travelers. I have a dog that was rescued from an abusive home. For about 9 months after I got him he would have the most aweful bouts of “accidents” at all times of the day and night. The doctor did lots of tests and they could not find a reason for his stomach problems and chalked it up to nerves. As a last ditch effort the vet recommended we try probiotics. Well for some reason they have made all the difference and we don’t have “accidents” anymore. Looks like my dog will be on probiotics for the rest of his life!
And I would like to add the importance of probiotics if your dog has been on antibiotics. Since antibiotics kill all bacteria – both good and bad, your dog needs to rebuild the good stuff!
