The Daily Dog Tip

For the third year in a row, accidental ingestion of human medications topped the ASPCA’s list of top 10 pet toxins. Over-the-counter medications (ibuprofen and acetaminophen) were most commonly ingested, followed by antidepressants and ADHD meds. The findings are not surprising considering our pets’ indiscriminating tastes. And accidents happen: bottles of pills are knocked over, pills are dropped or consumed through a plastic bag or bottle, and people give pets their own medicine, accidentally or in an effort to treat them. Keep your pets safe by placing your and your pet’s medications out of paw’s reach, and keeping 24/7 pet poison control and pet hospital phone numbers handy.

This is a great tip… and even though we would never think our dogs would snap up that bitter little pill that fell on the rug, the smell of our hands on the outside might just make it seem like something that could be a small treat.

If your pet does injest your pills and you can open thier month and pour in tablespoon of salt which will immediately make him/her vomit. If caught in time should be know problem. My puppy ate 50 of my benzodiazipems that would have killed me! I noticed she was acting druck found my pills on the floor, grabbed the salt, and she was ok after vomiting then drinking lots of water.
