The Daily Dog Tip

When getting a second dog, should it be female if your current dog is a male and vice-versa? Generally speaking, grown dogs do better with a newcomer of the other sex, but there are many exceptions to this rule. In fact, two males can live very happily together – while two females might be at each others’ throats nonstop. Much of it depends on how you handle moments of tension between them. If you are clearly the head of the household, then neither of them is going to feel the need to be in charge.

July 2nd 2001 I was given my “HEART-dog”. I had just returned from my Marine son’s funeral & was feeling that life was no longer worth living. My new daughter (yes, I call her my daughter) changed all that.
I trained her to be my Service Dog & she is as smart as a whip. She was 18 mths. old then & the most eager learner. She will be 13 yrs. old @ the end of this year.
From day 1, she has spent every night in my right arm as we fall asleep. Two years ago I adopted a female of a different breed ( & 1 yr. younger) & they have not had one cross woof between them ever in all that time. In fact, the older girl is very protective of her little sister. They spend as much time as they can right next to each other. We all sleep on “our” bed each night,& as close to each other as we can possibly get.

    LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
