Pumpkin is very good for dogs, and dogs usually want a piece of pie. Make Fido his own dog-friendly pie and he’ll never come begging for yours.
Whip together 1 can pumpkin (not pie mix), 3 eggs, half a cup of skim milk (or unsweetened soy milk), half a cup of brown sugar (it is a holiday!), and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour into a wholewheat pie shell and bake at a preheated 375 degrees F for 60 minutes or until a knife comes out clean. Your dog’s pumpkin pie will be rich and not too sweet! I would skip the soy and wheat as those are common allergens for dogs.
Dogs do not need sugar or wheat. Why not just feed them the pumpkin? They are not humans and don’t know the difference between a bowl full or pumpkin or a slice of pie. Rather disappointing tip Dogster.
Brown sugar once or twice a year will NOT hurt FIDO!!
Omit the wheat, omit the sugar, they are not human so they don’t need the sugar. Say what you want but sugar is poison to animals. I make many items for dogs, and exotic birds. I NEVER put sugar in the items. I use all the good stuff and they beg for it! They don’t know what they are missing so why poison them? Makes no sense at all. I make special biscuits using grains, seeds, nuts, berries, and veggies for example. They love it! They are wheat free, sugar free and my pets live unusually long healthy lives! My malamute was over 18 yrs for example. I have had cats live into their late 20s and they are still running around here. My pets love a dish of pumpkin or sweet potato, I make a custard with an egg in it and sometimes I add so quinoa or other items to it. They LOVE it. There is no need to add crap to their food.
I routinely mix canned pumpkin with my dogs regular food, both wet and dry. This helps keep their weight down as they get the volume they crave without the calories, and they really like it without any sugar.
Say what you want but refined sugar is poison to people too.
But I’d never add sugar to my dog’s food.
Dogs DO prefer pumpkin pie over plain pumpkin. I make mine w/o the sugar & w/o the crust. Too many allergies to wheat & they don’t need it
Other than that, I follow the recipe that I make for the humans
this recipe is so good YOU will love it and can share it with your dog! Yum!
