The Daily Dog Tip

Many popular commercially available dog foods are loaded with sugar, preservatives, and other ingredients that are not healthy for your dog’s body or behavior. Much as a child fed on a diet of Snickers and Mountain Dew may be demanding, whiney, hyper, and obnoxious, so dogs with poor-quality diets may have an increased tendency to exhibit behavior problems.

If you’re interested in learning more about dog food, check out The Whole Dog Journal, a wonderful independent publication that has extensive reviews of dry and canned varieties.

Casey Lomonaco owns Rewarding Behaviors Dog Training in Binghamton, NY.

Kibble & canned pet foods are NOT good choices for pets. The very best food for dogs & cats is raw. Nothing else will give them optimal health & longer lives like a raw or BARF diet. Read about it & talk to people who feed this way – you’ll be amazed at what incredible health it gives the animals. It’s also the closest to their natural diet (what they eat without human intervention).

I have to agree with Yorkie Rescue Mom about kibble and canned pet food. My dogs only get human grade meat/bone/fish.

And Yahoo has many raw feeding discussion groups. Email me if you need help with them. mstess_01@msn.com

While I don’t feed raw diets I understand why some do. We choose only high quality foods with meat as the first 4+ ingredients and make our own wet foods with only human grade ingredients purchased at our grocery store to supplement their commercial food. Just like people – crappy foods equal crappy health.

I feed a home cooked diet and make my own treats too — my almost 12 year old Golden is thriving. It’s not rocket science and is easier than cooking for the family. I will never feed commercial food again. Join a natural food email group and you’ll get all the info you need.

Very misleading – you can’t see this report without paying! I don’t mind the odd plug for quality items but this is flat out spam advertising.

Is there a list of dog foods and how they rank on a “quality” scale I could refer to. I see a lot of articles about choosing the right food but I see no “consumer report” type information so I can see what foods are better and which to avoid.

    Thanks!

I agree with some of the comments above, and indeed you have made out mouths water, but then lowered the boom.
This is nothing more than a spam e-mail. Shame on you.
I always read Dogster, but now I may not be so apt to.
BTW- I feed my two Labradoodles Life’s Abundance.
This is a really good dog food and good for your pet.
My Laverne and Shirley love it and since they have been on this for well over 1 month, their coats are so much shinier and their well-being has zoomed.

How is it spam to suggest a publication to people? I’ve seen books recommended here too and no one crying “spam” over those. The Whole Dog Journal is a great magazine with a LOT of great info for dog owners.
