If you don’t care to have your shoes, iPhone, family heirlooms or remote control chewed up, then set rules and don’t give your dog human objects to play with. Your dog should have his or her own dog-safe toys to chew and play with. Good news: there are toys for every dog’s chewing preference, from soft to hard. When you catch your dog in the act chewing something off-limits, simply say the stern word “No.” Then replace the object with one of his or her own toys; soon your dog will learn the difference. Don’t forget to praise your dog when you see him playing with his own toys instead of your belongings. PawLux.com is a leading provider of all natural and eco-friendly products for dogs. When it comes to selecting a dog bed, quality & durability is key. The dog bed must be able to withstand Fido’s fascination with chewing and his sharp claws. So chose a bed that can weather the storm of Hurricane Spot, withstand the wrath of the Un-Decorator, and do battle against the Chew-minator.
Make sure the dog bed or its cover is washable and made of durable fabric. Your dog will definitely appreciate his own bed, space and little slice of sleep heaven. Because why should you be the only one having sweet dreams? PawLux.com is a leading provider of all natural and eco-friendly products for dogs. Geriatric dogs with arthritis can sometimes drag their legs which can also result in some cuts and scrapes on their paws. Dog booties are a great way to protect their feet. The best kind of booties are the ones that have a velcro strap that wrap multiple times around the leg. This ensures that the bootie will not flip or fall off, staying quite secure. |

Get yourself a Bosun’s Whistle (they’re under $10 online) and train your dog to come when he hears it. Even if your dog is out of the range of your voice, he’ll be able to hear the whistle (which is piercing to us humans) and find his way back to you. Praise him lavishly and give him a treat bonanza so coming back to you is the most fun thing in the world. |

Always have a plan for keeping your dog close, safe and secured when summer road tripping.
Try the D2G Hitch’N Leash, which retails for under $20. Keep your dog safe from wandering off alone during a pit stop at a rest-area or from crashing your neighbors’ site at the campgrounds. ![]() This leash has a handy caribiner hook so you can attach it to almost any object to keep your best friend secure. Separate d-ring clips make it easy to adjust your lead as needed from 6″ to 2″ to provide more control and it gives you plenty of room to wrap around any object. The soft foam grip on the handle provides ultimate comfort. |

Firmly attach an accurate, up-to-date ID tag to your pet’s collar. Just like you are excited to be a social butterfly this summer, so is your pet!
Unfortunately, traveling and entertaining with your pet increases your chances of being separated from them. For added peace of mind, consider getting your pet microchipped as well – this is like an embedded ID card. Microchips provide extra assurance in case the tag falls off. If your dog is lost, the vet or animal shelter can scan the microchip so your lost then found hound is safely and quickly returned home to you. |

Just like humans, pets are not immune to being sunburned. Fair-furred and short-haired dogs are at higher risk of getting burnt by the sun. So help your pet avoid those harmful rays during peak sun hours on days between 10am and 4pm – OR, keep them in the shade, even when it’s overcast. Don’t forget to apply a fragrance-free, non-staining, UVA and UVB sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher so they don’t become a burnt hot dog. Be sure the sunscreen does not contain PABA, which is dangerous to dogs if ingested, because most dogs will try to lick the sunscreen off. Instead go with an all-natural sunscreen specifically for canines to protect your running buddy from UV rays. Apply the sunscreen to the nose, tips of ears, around lips, groin area, inside of legs, underbelly and other unprotected areas. |

In our opinion, based on our experiences, certain supplements and additives do work! Salmon oil is a supplement that we have found to be extremely beneficial. It had Omega oils, DHA, and other intrinsic benefits that make the coat healthy and shiny and also often improve joint and heart function. Salmon oil is easy to give as most companies offer it in easy-to-use pump bottles and it can be spritzed over food. There are many supplements and additives in the marketplace: the important thing is to weed through them and find ones that actually serve a purpose in your dog’s daily regimen. |

Now, even your dog toys can be safe and eco-friendly. West Paw Designs has revolutionized dog toys by creating a whole line of plush toys made from recycled Zogoflex – a fabric and fill made from recycled soda bottles. Hands down, one of the strongest plush toys I’ve ever tested. My Jack Russell’s plush toys usually last about a week, but her West Paw toy is still intact and she even plays tug with my big dog. Show all other other dog owners at the park you mean business, too, by showing off a Kemp “I Pick Up” poo bag carrier from www.4u2Reuse.com. A doctor-turned dog accessory designer created these cool bags from recycled kite boarder sails from Florida. Every bag is unique and made from a real kite board sail that once cruised the oceans. The “pick-up” bags inside are totally 100% biodegradable and also made from recycled materials. This bag attaches to a leash and is also great for stashing a set of house keys. Time to ditch the fanny packs from the ’80s! |
