When it comes to selecting a dog bed, quality & durability is key. The dog bed must be able to withstand Fido’s fascination with chewing and his sharp claws. So chose a bed that can weather the storm of Hurricane Spot, withstand the wrath of the Un-Decorator, and do battle against the Chew-minator.

Make sure the dog bed or its cover is washable and made of durable fabric. Your dog will definitely appreciate his own bed, space and little slice of sleep heaven. Because why should you be the only one having sweet dreams?

The Tote Dog Bed, which runs about $100, is disguised as a bag and actually unfolds into a beautiful travel bed where ever you go. This is perfect for the beach, grandma’s house, car, camping – you name it. It’s made from Sunbrella fabric which is waterproof, fade-resistant and easy to clean. There’s even a handy side pocket for stashing important vet records, snacks, toys and meds. Remove the inside pillow and toss it in the wash and you’re good to go! Also, made here in the USA – and that’s the coolest part of all!

It is definitely worth it to invest in a top-notch dog bed – one that is the right thickness and firmness for your dog. It will go a long way towards dissuading him from making your furniture into his bed.

Before you buy a dog bed try taking the cover off and on – if it’s easy, buy the bed. Don’t buy a dog bed with a cover that is a pain to remove – you’ll be less like to wash it and bed covers should be washed frequently.

When a puppy cries or scratches at night you have to take her out. In the puppy’s first weeks with you, your sleep is going to be interrupted many times to take her out. Consider wearing sweat clothes to bed or keeping them right nearby, because if the puppy wakes you up you need to pick her up and take her right outside to do her business.

When you are picking up your puppy, ask for a piece of cloth from the bedding he or she lived in with her littermates. The familiar smell will provide a security blanket when the little one feels most lonely and insecure during the first few nights.

Get a hot water bottle or a microwaveable hot pack that you can wrap in a towel and put into the crate with the puppy at night, to soothe him during the first week that he is away from his mother and the rest of the litter.

A super comfortable dog bed is a great investment because if a dog has a great alternative to your furniture, he’ll stick with his own, which will save much wear and tear on yours.
