Ever Wanted To Know More About $cfg_site_name?

On Monday the 28th of March at 9:25am (PST) / 12:25pm (EST), our very own Top Dog (that’s me ;) is going to be interviewed on the Talking Animals radio program on KICU out of Irvine, CA. The best part is that they stream all their programming over the internet, so anyone can listen in. It’s a great weekly hour-long radio show every Monday at 9am (PST).

Click this link to go to the streaming homepage. Then click a link in the upper right corner of the page that matches the player you have on your computer.

Dogster Wins People’s Choice Award

You Are The Best Community In The World! Roooooooooo!

We were awarded the prestegious People’s Choice award at the South by Southwest Interactive Conference. This is so fitting! We always say we have the best members and visitors in the world and today that was proved yet again by besting 80 other popular sites.

From the bottom of our doggie hearts we thank you for staying right by our side!

Woof woof woof! Bark bark bark!

OMG! It’s New Stroll Madness!

Beneath the top strolls you’ll now see a link to ‘More Strolls.’ It’s the mythical stomping grounds of lost strolls. This is a permanent addition and we’ll constantly be adding new ones so check in often!

Also the SXSW Web Awards are announced this Sunday night. See ‘Dogster’ about 1/3rd the way down. Wish us luck! You’ll be the first we thank!

*NEW* Use Our Pet-Friendly Hotel System

We are so happy to announce Dogster Travel, a special pet-friendly world-wide hotel booking system that only displays accomodations that consider your pets as important as you!

Both topdog and tomcat worked in online travel and we know the booking systems inside and out so we made a system designed for pet-friendly hotel bookings!

To get things going, if you are one of the first five members to send us a receipt from any booked hotel room, we will pick your dog (s) to be dog of the day.

Even better, the system is also a full-features air flight, car and hotel system so you can make any booking you want. Using this sytem, even once, will help us keep going and ensure we never have to charge for all the great features you already enjoy. So Get Out of Town with Dogster Travel!

Beware the pet drug Caprofen / Rimadyl

It’s a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for dogs and it’s been linked to too many deaths. This has been well documented but Dogster wants to make sure everyone is aware. You can do a Google search for Caprofen / Rimadyl. More than 1 in a 1000 dogs suffer negative side effects from the drug, some of which are very slight. Of the .18% that suffer side effects, sadly 13% died or were put to sleep. Here is a FDA report with all the details: http://www.fda.gov/cvm/CVM_Updates/rimadyl2.html.

Rimadyl continues to be recommend and any vet should know this situation better then all most anyone, but we’d recommend double checking on any prescribed usage just in case.

[Correction: I originally made a big mistake by saying 13% of dogs that used the medicine died. What I should have said was 13% of those that suffered negative effects (which is .18%) died. This is still way too many in my book, but far far far fewer than what I implied at first. Also note the FDA changed their URLs, the above URL now points to the new posting place of the data.]

Thanks Modern Dog!

Last week the Modern Dog Magazine invited Dogster to join them at the hyterical/fabulous Bark and Whine Ball in San Francisco. The Bark & Whine is a great fundraiser for the amazing SF SPCA. We don’t get out of the server room often enough so it was fun to sniff it up with all the other dogs.

Seated with us were the super creative Sniff Design and animal furniture designers Everyday Studios.

Thanks Connie and Modern Dog, it was great to see everyone, I mean sniff everyone, I mean meet everyone. Woof!

Classifieds Will Continue to be Free For Now!

We’ve been debating whether to let Dogster Classifieds stay as a free community service or proceed with our plans to start charging and FREE won. For now, posting a classified will remain free. We’re really pleased with how many great services and products are being offered by great pet-loving people so let’s see how far it can go.

In the future if it starts becoming too time consuming for us or simply too popular we’ll probably go back to our plan of asking a nominal monthly fee. Of course if your classified ad is helping you out, you can always consider a donation to Dogster as a thanks for the service!
