Photo Uploading Got Much Better

Helllllllo everyone. Another improvement is now crossed off the list.

We overhauled our photo uploading technology!

We can now handle uploading photos that are ridiculously big up to 5Mb (5,000k). So you should no longer ever have to reduce the photo on your end before uploading it. At the most you’ll just ahve to reduce it’s height and width to get it below 5Mb.

Also, we now use some nifty code that uploaded your photo and immediately displays it without having to wait for the page to reload. Big photos still require more time to upload over the internet, but this code makes the process much less confusing.

Finally, we’ve begun saving high resolution verisons of each image you upload. Custom printing of your photos on t-shirts, stamps and more directly from our site is in the works! More details on this to come.

Paw Power!

Dogster Turns Two! Happy Birthday Dogster!

What proud papas! Dogster was officially unleashed on the public January 12th, 2004! I can’t believe it’s been two years already and I can’t believe how much fun so many people are finding on the sites.

When made the site public, I barely expected 10,000 people to ever join the site. Now here we are 2 years later with 150,000 members and almost 200,000 pets. Since launching we’ve added private messaging, diaries, personality profiles, forums, classifieds, travel, groups, the newsletter, holiday themed stroll, World’s Coolest Dog & Cat Show, and more I’m sure I’ve forgotten!

We’ve added a 2 candle cake that will start appearing on pet pages for members that have been on the site for two years. Super exciting.

But really, if you’ve been on the site for two years or two hours, it’s all about the fun. Who knows what we’ll dream up next. Keep the ideas coming. There’s one thing I’ve definitively learned: this site is for you, we’re just the guardians!

Thanks for having the opportunity!

Dogster Groups Now Live

Ruff, Ruff and Happy New Year!

2006 is going to be a big, dog lovin’-good time - hey, it is the year of the dog ya know - and just to show how much we love all ya good doggies out there in Dogsterland, we now have Dogster Groups (beta version)!

What is a group you ask?

A group is a way of organizing members of Dogster & Catster around a particular shared interest. The group could be focused on a particular breed (Dogster Pugs, Catster Manx Lovers), a particular cause (Dogsters Against Breed Specific Legislation, Catsters for Feline Leukemia Prevention), a local group (Mission Dolores Dogs, Manhattan Cat Association), or even just a silly group (Dogster Super Friends, Catster Super Felines). It’s totally up to you! Once you have created the group you can invite others to join or leave membership open and let them join on their own. You can send messages to the group, share photos, post events, share links and do it all from your own group homepage.

To get started go to the Group Homepage.

It is a little bit complicated at first so we highly recommend a reading of the Group FAQs.

As this is a new feature built from the ground up just for our community, you may still see a few cyberfleas. Be sure to let us know if you find anything great, strange or awful and we will be sure to check it out.

Enjoy!
