Howdy hi everyone!
I am so pleased to say that as of today Instant Messaging is now a live feature available to all Plus members. Honestly, we are hoping to be able to offer IM to everyone at some point, but the rigors of hosting it mean it’s a Plus-only feature for now.
For those that will be using it, take the time to read the help pages to learn how the different features work.
For now you can see all your pals that are online from the homepage. Also in your groups you will be able to IM any other members that are online. In the forums you’ll be able to IM some members if they have chosen to let anyone IM them.
We’ve created some new settings you’ll want to consider regarding how you use IM. The new options are:
If you want anyone that is Plus to be able to IM you or just your pals. This default to just your friends. You can change it anytime from your ‘Account Options Page‘.
If you are seen as visible or invisible each time you log in. This defaults to visible. You can change it anytime from your ‘Account Options Page‘.
You’ll also have the option of changing your visibility setting for just one visit, so if you want to appear hidden once in a while or make yourself visibile for just one visit you can do so. Note that changing your visibility does not change your previous setting if only friends or anyone in Plus can IM you. You can change your session’s visibility from the home page or your ‘Account Options Page‘.
Though we are launching this we expect there will a handful of problems specific to certain browsers or users. So just use our handy feedback form and we’ll track them all and resolve them one by one. We do know now that for some reasons users of Internet Explorer 6 are not able to initiate conversations. Perhaps you may want to try out the Firefox browser while we’re working on it.

A couple months ago we had a annoying problem where non-members were misappropriating peoples’ photos and using them on other sites with dishonest intentions. Some people are used to the internet just being the internet and these things happen and other members asked us to make it harder for people to simply copy and paste photos.
So our engineer Leef added some nifty code so we could do just that. If you now go to your Accout Page you will now see a link to modify your public photo sharing preferences. If you do not want to share your photos with others you can use our security system to make it clear you do not want your photo used without your permission. From that point on all full size photos on public pages will indicate they cannot be used without your permission.
We hope this can give everyone paws of mind that their loved ones remain their loved ones! Let us know what you think and how it works for you!
Last night was the second worst server upgrade in my life. We are so sorry what we expected to take four hours took all night and well into the next day.
Now that it’s all back to normal (and better then ever) the first thing I could think of doing was coming here and apologizing profusely. The whole team here is worked but we feel awful that we could not resolve it sooner.
We work so hard at this, it crushes us when we don’t get everything perfect. A couple curve balls last night really struck us out, but thanks to some heroic night into day we at elast worked it out by now. Thanks so much for bearing with our extended onlife paws.

We recently got sniffed out a new group that we think everyone should know about and join. It’s called Lost & Found and we think the idea is absolutely brilliant.
The Lost & Found group has created forum threads by state (and also for Canada and International locations) so people can report about lost pets and use it as a centralized location if one of their pets should (dog forbid) go missing!
A big paws up to the amazing community members who thought of this idea. We hope it brings lots of heartwarming success stories our way in the coming months!
