New Dogster & Catster Dog and Cat Food Recall Center

The Menu Foods pet food contamination and recall has put us over the edge. How little concern is going into the production of a sold item that is meant the extend the life of a furry family member, not cut it short.

So we created a Pet Food Recall Resource Center on our sites. There you’ll find headlines of the most recent Alerts and News, links to stay in the nose and links on how to get active.

If you have any items you think we should add, just let us know. So far I think the Dogster Dog Blog has been the single biggest source of all recall news thank to Joy Ward intrepid coverage and every making sure she knows every single last detail that could save a pets life. We’re backing this 100% and doing all we can to get the word out farther and faster.

Much woof and meow!

New Advertising Partner: Glam Networks

Hi everyone,

As you’ve probably noticed by now, we’ve serving a whole new set of ads in our right “skyscraper” ad placement. You’ll also see their ads replacing ads in other parts of the site. (There will be no new real estate given for advertising.) After years of displaying text and image ads that were rather low-rent, we now have a partner that is as upscale as you are. All ads come from Glam Networks which has deeply impressed us by making great content and selectively bringing in quality advertisers.

In an ideal world keep our sites up and running (and adding new features as often as we can) would not cost us a penny and therefore we wouldn’t have expenses to defer. Alas that is not the case and advertising in what keeps our light on, servers up and community happy. So we’re really thrilled to find a partner like Glam that gets that this is a special place and helping the advertisers they bring in realize that.

If you like what you see, please take a moment to click and explore. If you like Glam you can join their network. I did!

Try Our New Adoption Search

While we are working on a big improvement to the way people and shelters can post and find adoptable pets , we made an improved search tool that’s the best it can be with our current infrastructure.

It’s really just a stop-gap measure until we can make the necessary improvements, but it’s so much better then using the advanced search form or using the stroll.

Try out the new adoption search today. There’s one for dogs and one for cats.

Also we would love to hear any ideas, suggestions, dreams, wishes you would have for our new adoption and rescue postings, listing and search. Please check out this forum we started and chime in today!

Bettering Our Forums Notification

Arrrooooooo!

Many of you have contacted us to say that you weren’t all that keen on the way our forums post notification worked. And since when you bark, we listen, we are happy to announce a few major improvements to this very pawpular part of our site.

From now on, a post will have to be flagged for review 3 times by 3 different members before it is removed from the live forums. If it is flagged once or twice, the moderators will be notified but the post will remain live until it reaches 3 notifications.

Once a post is flagged 3 times, it will be pulled from the live forums for moderator review. But, you will now see a new placeholder message in the forum thread. Also, if one of your posts is flagged 3 times, you will receive an e-mail letting you know.

Our goal is to constantly make your experience on Dogster as good as it can be. We hope these changes make you all wag your tails!

Woofs to all!
