New & Improved Dogster Video Tools!
Today we deployed a new video solution on the site. We're super-excited, because it will make our members' video management experience so much better!
If you've uploaded videos in the past, all your existing videos will continue to display and play fine and will require no changes.
The benefits of this upgrade include the following:
* You'll soon see far fewer ads served in videos.
* We will no longer need to scan uploaded videos for copyrighted content, such as music. Our new system will allow for people with complaints to notify us, and we will review all concerns before making any action. You will be notified if any rightholder requests a takedown, but until then you are free to post whatever you like.
* Our new video uploader works on ALL browsers now and requires no advance download. There will be a short wait before your videos are available as we encode them for the web for you as quickly as possible.
Please note: While there are all these great improvements, there is regretfully one issue—but a fixable one—that will result from the change in a couple of weeks. Videos you have embedded anywhere in the past by using the HTML embed code (such as in a blog, social network profile or even your own Dogster or Catster page) will no longer display after the end of the month. We are very sorry about this.
As a simple fix, you can get a new embed code and replace the old code with the new. Just go to the page containing your previously uploaded video (click on the video title link on your Pet Page) and get the new embed code, which has been updated automatically.

There goes the EGGMAN…goo goo ca chew! Dogster rules. Thanks for getting rid of a company that was basically censuring our creative flows. I am sure that Dogster’s everywhere are throwing a the EGGMAN is dead party!
I can’t get mine to work. Do I need to install something?
The new video that I added worked, but the other are still trying to use videoegg…
Sorry, I’m not liking it so far. It’s very, very slow. I could’ve uploaded 5 videos by now with Video Egg. It’s been about 15 minutes and my video just reached 50% — it’s less than a minute long! I also do not like that there is no way to edit before uploading. I save a ton of time by being able to edit out little bits and pieces before directly uploading, versus having to go through editing software. Sorry! Not a good move in my opinion!
It`s much slower than video egg and in order to have it displayed on my page,I was prompted to replace an existing video, With video egg,the videos were unlimited. I think I prefer video egg!
First video uploaded with new system duplicated itself, as did the second one. After deleting the dups, we viewed and found the videos choppy. Sound is still constant, but video looks like every 2nd or 3rd frame was removed… very choppy… very disappointing. The cutest expression by our senior golden, suffering from CRF… missing… but present on the original. All shot with same camera used for all of our previous Dogster videos… so, new isn’t improved…

Yes in getting to move beyond the egg we get to also lose the ads and the censure rules the made.
Sadly we alos had to lose their uploader which was very fast because of proprietary technology. So uploads are slower now, but about the same speed as youtube, vimeo and other major video providers. I am very sorry about this. VideoEgg had a really nifty uploader, but they just did not support the over all functionality the members wanted.
A couple other points.
*No install in required, which is a nice improvement and you can upload from any browser, also a nice benefit. If you’re having trouble uploading please update here or use the contact form and we’ll check it out right away.
*We made no purposeful changes to the number of videos you could upload and show on your pet’s pages. You should be able to add as many videos as you want, though there is a limit to the number you can show on the pet page. If you are seeing any change from the previous behavior, please comment back here or use the contact form. Perhaps a bug got into the new system.
*All existing videos will display as VideoEgg videos for another week or so. We’re going through the process of re-encoding them into our new player. Once we’ve updated all videos old and new videos alike will play through our new player.
If you want to use your pet’s URL as your comment URL then we’ll be able to easily check out your videos. Otherwise add the pet’s URL in the comment so we can check it out.
And I’ll add again, we are greatly sorry about losing the nifty upload speed and editing tools of VideoEgg. It’s one of the things they did very well. You can rest assured though if you start the upload process and browse the site in another window we’ll keep the upload going in the other window.

I just loaded two more videos today (on Treader and the puppie’s pages). Treader’s video is already almost done, and the puppie’s video loaded really fast.
Thank you Dogster! I’ve always wanted to upload more videos, but I wasnt able to download videoegg on this computer for whatever reason. This is a fun feature that made us extremley happy!!
I bet this is wonderful! I would use it, but I can’t upload video on my computer. It doesn’t give me an option to. So I remain video-less. :~(

Yay! I love the new downloader, and thanks for fixing the video manager so that we can delete duplicates. I don’t know how you do it, but you all do great work on Dogster!
Every now and then a video will upload and the sound will not play. I’ve had to reupload a few times to get it to work and that does take a bit of time. I’m sure with these posts things will get on a smoother track. Another intermittent problem I am having is when I go to into full-screen mode, the sound will play but the video itself is frozen.
The last 2 videos that we tried to upload only encoded the sound and no video.
I never had problems with Eggman but now, after the video is uploaded, only audio is available and the screen goes black. In short, I can’t watch the videos. Why is this happening? Is there a solution.

I’m not liking it too much, either. Before, I could upload any video and *poof* it would be on the page. Now, if it’s a certain size, no way, no how. I’ve been trying to upload a video for 5 days now and I guess I have to accept the fact that it will never be uploaded. So much for the birthday celebration I really wanted on my dog’s page. I give it a BIG thumbs DOWN.
