Anxiety Wrap
A common reader question here at the Good Dog Blog pertains to anxiety and all its many forms. Separation anxiety, thunderstorm anxiety, fireworks anxiety, car ride anxiety – you get the picture. Well, I had an email pop into my inbox yesterday that made me stop and think about canine anxiety and wonder whether this might be an answer to all our anxiety problems.
What I want to know is whether anyone has ever tried an Anxiety Wrap for their dog?
There is science behind the effectiveness of the wrap, which I am not going to get into here because it is nicely written out by Dr. Shereen Farber here. In a nutshell, the soothing and constant pressure of the Anxiety Wrap calms both the Central Nervous System and the Autonomic Nervous System, calming the ‘flight or fight’ response that causes the anxiety.
If these wraps work, their use is absolutely unlimited – toe nail trimming, calming aggression in stressed dogs, calming an injured dog, you name a stressful situation and this wrap would be an integral part of how we train our dogs!
And what about cats? Would they benefit from something similar for car rides, visits to the vet, and any number of cat anxiety causing situations.
Heck, I want to make a human shaped Anxiety Wrap to handle my stress!
Has anyone used one with their dog? Did it work and how well i.e. worth the investment? If this product works like it claims it does, let’s get the word out to all the dog owners out there – can you imagine if we could stop or at least alleviate all canine stress? That is almost as good as a cure for cancer!

I would like to comment on the anxiety wrap (www.anxietywrap.com). I have used several different wraps after I heard about them a year or so ago. I tried the ANXIETY WRAP, the storm defender, and the thundershirt. The anxiety wrap is by far the best.
It is the only wrap that my dog actually liked. Furthermore, it is the only one that truly worked. The others mention using constant pressure to reduce the stress, and that may be; HOWEVER, my dog didn’t like them. They were too heavy and rigid. They were uncomfortable for my dog, and actually caused other stress besides the anxiety from the storms.
The anxiety wrap is truly amazing. It worked almost instantly and (most importantly) my dog didn’t mind it. It has an awesome design that allows the fabric to breathe. It is lightweight for the dog, moves with my dog, and stays where it is supposed to. That is the most important! Since the anxiety wrap doesn’t just maintain pressure to relieve stress – it uses the RIGHT pressure by hitting different PRESSURE points along the dogs body to RELIEVE tension and stress – it is very important that the wrap stay (COMFORTABLY) where it is supposed to.
To be honest, I would not choose anything else. I am completely satisfied with the anxietywrap! I will never recommend any of the other kinds (they are just not dog friendly!), and will refer everyone to the one that works, and my dog likes… I mean that’s why I bought it to begin with – for my dog!
