Pets and Cancer: Would they be covered?
Just last week I was talking to a friend of mine whose 7 year old lab came down with cancer. Nevermind the toll that something like this would take on the kids and the family, but she was told that chemotherapy was going to run an upwards of $6,000! We chatted about pet insurance and how it’s becoming more and more popular and she was kicking herself for not having it, but when it comes down to it would something like that be fully covered? Please tell us your experiences with pet insurance and cancer treatments. We want to hear it all!

Approximately 7 years ago my golden retriever was diagnosed with cancer. I was absolutely devastated the only bright side of this was I had pet insurance with a cancer endorsement ( which means you get double coverage for cancer). The pet insurance paid for most of his chemotherapy and for most of the special testing that was necessary . I believe every pet should have pet insurance.
i have done a bunch of research on different types of pet insurance, and it seems you can get cancer coverage. it depends on the plan and the insurance company. ASPCA offers pet insurance (the highest costs about $80/month for dogs and less for cats.) the cheapest is $7.50/month for cats, it only covers accidents. they rise as the coverage goes up. and they have a $100 annual premium, i don’t know the how much they cover, tho. i’ve considered pet insurance for Mittens, because he’s hyper-active and has a high tendency to fall.
Shirley,
I am so sorry to hear that your pup was diagnosed. But good for you for having the insurance before it happened, and I’m glad to hear that it worked out for you!
Mittens,
In all your research have you landed on a company that’s going to work for you yet? Is there any reason why you haven’t settled on one?
