Heartworm disease in cats is definitely on the rise. This may be because we now have better tests to diagnose this disease than previously. All cats, even the indoor only guys should be kept on monthly heartworm preventative.

My cat had heartworm diagnosis over two years ago, The treatment for dogs is not recommended for cats as it is too toxic.Plavax andHeartguard were prescribed.

Very little information is stressed about cats having heartworm. Most vets posters about heartworm medication speaks only of dogs.My cat is a stray trapped in a hav a heart cage in my yard so there is no history.
The internet revealed my cat's coughing episodes were either asthma or heartworm.I pursued the heartworm test with my vet and wound up going to Tufts Veterinary School in N.Grafton MA and the proper blood tests were done. They really don't see a couple cases in cats in a year.My cat being one of them.He is heartworm free and alive.

Really wish more emphasis would be directed towards cats so cat owners can be aware that, yes, a cat can get heartworm.

Thank you for your shared info.I read the emails daily and enjoy the topics and learn from them.
