My cat Pilgrim had an absess and had to have the collar, he walked backwards the whole time trying to back out of it,
When I took it off it was amazing how fast he could start pulling on the drain , once the drain was out, he left it alone.

I used to work for a dog trainer who used a combination of stuffed Kongs and leather muzzles to cure dogs of lick granulomas so last year when my Belgian Malinois had to have a tumor removed I purchased an inexpensive Jafco muzzle for her to wear rather than an Elizabethan collar so she wouldn't bother the incision site. Worked like a charm and she wasn't as irritated by it as she would have been by the collar not to mention she wasn't a hazard to people and furniture in the house!
