Monkey Adopts Puppy
I found the following blurb in Guatemala City´s Nuestro Diario. Please pardon any translation errors.
Adopted by a Monkey
A female monkey was seen carrying a baby dog on the branch of a tree in a rural zone of the Indian state of Jammu and Cachemira. According to the local residents, the monkey lost her baby and adopted the puppy in its place to satisfy her maternal instincts.
It´s an interesting story, although I would categorize the locals´ rationale for the adoption as speculation. I did a quick google search, and was surprised to discover that with the exception of Koko the gorilla, it is actually much more common for pets to adopt primates than vice-versa.

You have questions.
Did people see the wonderful video about the crow that adopted the kitten? The crow brought the kitten food, slept with it, played games with it, walked with it… I don’t know what happened but it’s a great story.
It really isn’t more common for pets to adopt primates than for primates to adopt pets. All humans are primates, and millions of us have adopted pets. Most people don’t consider humans primates, they jsut consider them “humans” but we humans are not that distant from monkeys like the one that adopted the puppy. We were just the first creatures to acept animals other than ourselves into our families.
Jade, you are correct. The last sentence of my post should read ¨. . . more common for pets to adopt non-human primates than vice-versa.” Thanks for keeping me on my toes!
Cool! The little puppy probably didnt know what to think about a monkey picking it up and taking it for a ride from tree to tree. I wonder if the puppy will become attached to the monkey. I also wonder when the puppy grows up will the monkey still like the puppy after it has grown up.
