New Website is Better Than Sliced Bread!
I have a one-year-old Yorkie female, unfixed, who is
losing the hair around her eyes.
Last month I put her on Comfortis for fleas.
I have not changed her food.
What can be causing this and what can I do ?

I suspect that your dog is suffering from demodicosis, or puppy mange. You can find out all about it on my new website.
What can be causing my dog to constantly lick her
paws and backside?

Excessive licking usually is caused by itching. What you ask, causes itching in pets? That information is available on my new website. Check it out!
My nine-year-old mixed breed dog Panda has for the
last couple of years developed a sort of facial
tic – her lower jaw will jerk up and down as if
she was cold and chattering her teeth. She does it
more and more frequently and I’ve even noticed
her doing it in her sleep. Should I be concerned?

I don’t think you should be concerned. Jaw chattering usually is a form of trembling. Read all about it on my new website.

Dear Dr. Barchas,
I have two miniature Dachshunds. They are mates,
and they are both 10 years old. They are obese.
The male, George, weighs 20 pounds, and the
female, Gracie, weighs 19 pounds. They are both
trained to relieve themselves outside. They very
rarely ever make a mess inside the house unless
we have to leave them home alone for some reason,
although we always try to take them with us when
we go somewhere as much as possible. I have
noticed in the last couple of weeks that Gracie
has begun to urinate in the house, and in our
vehicle. She has NEVER done this before! Both
George and Gracie sleep with us at night, in our
bed. I have had to wash our sheets about four times
in the last two weeks because she has urinated on
our sheets and covers. Do you know what would be
making her do this? Should I be alarmed and take
her to her vet, or is it just because she is
getting older? Thank you so very much!
Sincerely,
Sherry

You have questions.
With the economy being in a “tank”, and my husband and I on fixed incomes, we face great difficulty in purchasing flea/tick medicine for our Cairn Terrier. We live in a suburb which is landscaped and I don’t allow him to go in the bushes or canal area. How critical is it that he have his monthly application. Also, the cost of his annual examination has become unaffordable. Our Humane Society does not administer inexpensive vaccinations to public pets–only accommodates their own shelter pets. Where can I obtain low-cost veterinarian services? This year, Smitty still has his rabies and dipheteria shots, but next year will be critical to him receiving updated vaccinations. HELP!!!
I have two questions for you
1. why does my nine month old pit poop on my bed? and by the fron’t door? he’s been doing good on the potty traing, i don’t understand.
2. do you think a male pit coming rom a not so good past owner would wind up attacking us? my neighbor just won’t stop trying o run this down my throat.
Thanks,
Camie
Some more information: my pit does have some stranger aggression, he barks at noises, people walking down the street, and he barks at my cofee pot if that means anything? lol!
My neighbor says i have a vicious dog, but he has never growled, shown teeth or anything aggressive towards any member of my family. I think pits just have a bad rap what do you think?
He dd com rom an abussive home, at two months old i rescued him and he’s been with me ever since. I want to be able to stop my neighbor when he starts in on my hearing dog.
Camie, I agree that most Pit Bulls get bad raps. Most of the ones I’ve met are incredibly sweet.
Nonetheless, nobody can offer credible information on the aggressive tendencies of a specific dog over the internet. Any dog with aggressive tendencies should be assessed by a veterinarian, preferably one certified in behavior.
I am the owner of 2 pits, the sweetest dogs in the world if raised properly by somebody who knows what they are doing.
