And I generally give an NSAID to my dog (who will need it more often as he ages, of course) on a need-to-use basis. When he's sore after a longer walk, for instance. Just like I might take one. I get his blood levels checked and I use milk thistle, and I'm pretty careful with diet, supplements, etc., but hey, sometimes there's nothing as helpful as an NSAID.

I have a 19 year old schnauzer that has been taking Rimadyl (25mg) daily for almost a year. He also gets some extra vit. E (water soluble), glucosamine/cond/msm, CoQ10 (30 mg), and MILK THISTLE (100mg). Milk Thistle (silymarin) is GREAT for the liver. There is no known toxicity level for milk thistle, so there is no such thing as too much (however, too little can be useless). I get a very good product, free from extra additives, from an online suppliment store. My little ol' man's liver values have actually gone down from what they were even before he was on the Rimadyl. Go ahead, look into giving milk thistle to any animals that are taking NSAIDS, lose the fear.
