I too have a dog who suffers from demodex mange. She will be 6 in September and unfortunately she never outgrew the problem. She came to us as a foster, but when she started having health problems I decided to keep her because I knew she would be hard to place. We keep her demodex under control with a daily dose of ivemectin. She also gets special food. For all her expense and the extra work, she is a great little dog and I do not regret keeping her.
