My 2 dachshunds have been itching their ears like they are infested but they arent and one day the little one, Lucy, shook something out like a scab and then a drop of blood. On the other hand my large dachshund, Frank, has black stuff in his ear there is no odor but i am concerned and i hope its allergies. Lucy just developed a skin break out and Frank has always had it it doesn't seem to bother them. So I looked in all my manuels and even my maverk vetrinary manuel but they all say something different. Any hints on wat you think can treat it?

My chihuahua is 7 weeks old and has just begun itching its ears like crazy. I took her to the vet today and she had no sign of infection or ear mites. The doc said she was fine. Later that evening, my dog continued to itch her ears like crazy. I dont know what it is, i live in the central valley, all i can think of is Allergies. Allergies are very common in this area and i think my dog has them. Her ears are red on the inside and the outside due to scratching, and her ears are getting "thick" no longer thin and flimsey. she whines when i touch them and she cant sleep at night. i was giving her benedryl and the vet "thinks" that her itching is a side effect. "i dont believe him".......hope this is helpful.

My brother-in-law brought by his dog Moose. He noticed he was missing a lot of hair on his belly and private parts. it was growing up to his back leg. He also said he had an ear infection. I asked if he brougth him to the Vet and he said no. Well, now my dogs are flapping their ears and scratching them a lot. Could it be mange and ear mites. I am worried. thanks for all your help.

My chihuahua has allergies which actually caused an ear infection. The vet had to sedate him and wash his ears out and then prescribed two types of drops. My dogs fur tends to be somewhat oily and he tends to scratch alot even though he has no fleas. Allergies is the main culprit. My vet also prescribed something like benedryl that has seemed to help and his ears give him far less trouble. You will definitely know an ear infection because the ears smell horrible. Does your dog chew on his paws? This is another indication that he may have allergies. Hope this is helpful.
