Please help! My older cat Tiger is 14yrs old, Back in Jan. he was diagnosed with kidney diesease. The blood levels showed a little higher level than normal. I have had him get several subcutanous fluids on and off, just because they told me to. He is very big and they tell me he needs to lose weight, i think he might be down 2or 3lbs. Recently he has started the loud meows, kept me up last nite, all nite, meowing, Had him at the vet yesterday, gave him fluids, askrd about thyroid disease the vet said usually the cats are skinny, my Tiger would eat constantly if i let him. He will pace sometimes back and forth, and I guess stay up quit a bit. Can a cat who is heavy get hyperthyroidism? Thankyou

My cat was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She is an older cat (16yrs). I took her in for a checkup because she seemed to be drinking a lot of water and not eating as much food. Everything else was completely normal – no vomiting and she was very cuddly and affectionate. If we gave her wet food she would eat it fine, so I figured there wasn’t a problem with lack of appetite, maybe just didn’t want her dry food anymore.

The vet told me that her blood test showed she has a hyper thyroid, but that it’s not on the “high” side. So he gave me pills that I have to give her every 12hours. Her personality has changed since we’ve given her the pills. We tried giving her the pill with wet food since she likes it so much. One thing that’s been worrying me is that she meows constantly – but rarely meowed before. And it’s not just meowing, it’s the really loud very repetitive meow. Is this something I should worry about? It’s not like her at all.

I’m also wondering, because the vet said her thyroid is not on the high side, why does she need to get the pill twice a day? It seems like a lot.

Hmm, my cat Leroy sounds like a classic case of hyperthyroid disease. I’ll go back to the vet and ask whether his kidney disease is related to his thyroid and, if so, whether those injections would help. He’s about 17 yrs old, but I’m not ready to let him go yet.

Our outdoor cat Hanna is about 12 to 13 years old she Meows when she wants attention.. she is well fed and will not come into the house but insists that I go out to her… She likes to sit inside the lid of a cardboard box and wait for me to come out and brush her beautiful coat…If I do not go out rightaway she sits outside the sliding patio door and waits for me.. You could say I belong to her…Just thought I would let prople know what a devoted owner I am or dose she own me?

I have a 171/2 year old cat that is hperthyroid and takes medicine
twice a day.He sometimes screams so laod it is scarey. However those on his really bad days, The other times he just yells alot.
He drinkd lots of water and eats all the time but is still nothing but skin ove bone. He has stuck by me thru thick and thin so I plan to stick by him unless my vet says he is suffering .Believe me they are worth the expense and I live on a fixed income.

I also just read about constant crying and this may help my cat,he is an 8 year old tabby and was the runt of the litter. He constantly cries and talks . Recently he has been throwing up and I also noticed more intake of water. He is also the last of 3 cats to nap or sleep during the day. I am defineatly going to have him checked out. thanks and wish me luck!

I read the blog about older cats meowing more…my cat is about 16 yrs. old, she is constantly in the sink wanting water, she is losing the hair on her back, and talks constantly. She also vomits alot, but no diarrhea. She is very thin, but alway has been small. She was treated for the hairloss with Baytril, but it didn’t do anything. I thought she may be stressed because I do have 2 other cats and she is the timid one of the 3. Should she be checked for hyperthyroid as mentioned in the blog.
